Julia Jacklein has an MA in Composition (York University), a Bachelor of Independent Studies specializing in Piano Pedagogy and Composition (University of Waterloo), and an ARCT in piano performance (Royal Conservatory).
Julia began teaching piano in 2004 and has written music since childhood. She is also a visual artist and language tutor and enjoys exploring music and the arts with people of all ages.
Julia's teaching is influenced by her education at a Waldorf school. This practical method of education supports a child's intellectual, physical and emotional development in a holistic way. In her music studio Julia uses art, literature, physical exercises and creative activities to help students expand their imaginations and better understand music. She has travelled to Europe frequently, and her knowledge of European culture informs her teaching. Students enjoy hearing about Vienna, Cologne, Prague, Florence and Paris, and about the courts of Europe where much classical music was written.
Julia also has a deep love of nature, which informs her work as a composer and artist.
